Coming from a Construction and Engineering background, we kept seeing projects come across our desks that should have been cheaper and faster to build if only they were designed with a few minor tweaks. We thought: “well, we know how to make the designs better, so why not make them ourselves?”
Being wise means you learn from your experiences and grow from them. Every project is unique but all projects can build upon each other.
You know what you want, our job is to guide you to a buildable design. For some clients, that is just a quick set of plans. For others, it’s a partnership that lasts until the day you move in. However you operate, Sabio Design is here to assist and communicate our knowledge on the building design process, in every step of the way.

Eric Johnson
FOUNDER
Eric is Sabio Design’s founder. He started his career as a structural engineer in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, where he worked on residential and commercial projects both on design and project management. After years of working on the engineering side of the business, Eric shifted his talents to residential design by opening his own firm, combining his experience in structural engineering with his eye for design that makes sense and looks great.
When Eric is not thinking about design, you can find him chasing frisbees, climbing, running the Spanish Moss Trail or playing really long board games.

Cindy Schmitt
BUSINESS OPERATIONS MANAGER
With her attention to details, organization skills and her expertise in running an office, Cindy has now turned her talents to assisting Eric with the day-to-day challenges of a design studio. She also brings her eye for design, practicality and out of the box thinking to our projects. She enjoys her large family and visiting her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. When she is not involved in a home remodeling project, or traveling and can actually shut off all work, you can find her enjoying the lovely Lowcountry weather out by the pool with her family and trusty companions Nala and Forrest.

DESIGN CONSULTANT
A multi-talented design expert, Mari has worked in nearly every aspect of the business environment. Currently by day she assists the youth of the Lowcountry master math skills, by night she is Sabio Design’s website manager and design consultant. Every project that passes through our desks gets a critical look over by her to ensure the design will be perfect for the client.
